Completion ceremony for the Maîtres d'art - Élèves program (Class of 2019)

Created in 1994 by the French Ministry of Culture, the Maîtres d'art - Élèves program helps to perpetuate the remarkable and rare skills of the art professions. It supports the transmission of skills that embody the excellence of arts and crafts, contribute to France's economic and cultural life, and for which there are no longer any training courses. Awarded for life, the title of Maître d'art recognizes passionate craftsmen for the singularity of their skills, their exceptional career path and their involvement in the renewal of the art professions. Once appointed, each Maître d'art has a duty to pass on his or her know-how to the Student with whom he or she has been selected. For a period of three years, the apprentice's workshop becomes the privileged place for transmission. He receives an annual stipend and educational support from the Institut National des Métiers d'Art.

For almost thirty years, 149 Maîtres d'Art have been appointed in over a hundred different specialties. Transmission, passion, innovation, entrepreneurial spirit... artcrafts are a source of human development. Since January 1, 2023, 8 new pairs of Maîtres d'art and Pupils have joined the scheme. In 2024 and 2025, there will be plenty of news within the program, with the opening of the call for applications for the class of 2025 and the celebration of 30 years of existence of the Title.
