ULGADOR

For Maison&Objet In The City, Ulgador - a workshop halfway between alchemy, art and craftsmanship - is opening the doors of its gallery-showroom to present a new collection that brings together artistic and craft disciplines.

Gold leaf is a recognised art, but the effects obtained by oxidising or corroding brass, copper and silver leaf are less well known. Ulgador, a workshop halfway between alchemy, art and craft, has made these experiments its identity card. Founded by Hungarian-born artist Gabor Ulveczki, Ulgador is the name he came up with to express his expertise: the creation of decorative panels gilded with beaten metal leaf.

By applying metal sheets to glass, paper, wood or even textiles, Ulgador creates surfaces with changing, vibrant, even living colours. He treats these surfaces as materials, creating patterns that offer artistic expression and a unique visual identity to the interiors in which the panels are then installed as wallpaper, screens, credenzas or table tops. Flowers, plants, graphic or geometric lines come to life under the skilful hands of Gabor and Rahel Ulveczki.
