XXO & Xavier Gellier's design anecdote | The Boomerang desk found... at the corner store!

The Boomerang desk, design icon of the 1970s

XXO founder Xavier Gellier introduces us to an iconic piece of 1970s design, the Boomerang desk.

The story of a piece of furniture with an original shape, but also that of an unlikely find... in a grocer's shop.

With Boomerang, sculptor Maurice Calka invented a desk with an organic shape and bright, pop colors. The model of the desk was presented at SICOB in 1969. Published in limited numbers in 1970, its success was such that it was offered in 42 colors from 1971.

30 years later, the mythical desk had fallen into oblivion.

But one morning, XXO founder Xavier Gellier and his partner stumbled across an original copy... on their way home from shopping. The expression "boomerang return" has never been more aptly named!
