Maxime Bellaunay

An cabinetmaker and sculptor based in Paris, Maxime Bellaunay shapes his world according to the landscapes he traverses, whether geographical or inner ones. Nourished by stone, wood, and metal, he allows the material to guide the form, favoring listening over control. Wood grain, cracks in the stone, surface irregularities: so many imperfections that he welcomes as signatures of the territory.

His unique pieces or very limited series — furniture, lighting, sculptures — emerge from a demanding dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary sensibility. A graduate of École Boulle, he masters precise techniques while advocating for a free, almost instinctive approach, enriched by regular travels between France and Japan. Rejecting any form of standardization, Bellaunay conceives each creation as a fragment of landscape, a poetic remnant inscribed with the memory of the soil and the breath of materials.

Through this aesthetic of rawness and vitality, he embodies a new way of thinking about objects: sculpted, inhabited, deeply rooted in the earth. Among his most striking works, certain cliff-side steel pieces, his sculptural lighting designs, and his furniture shaped like geological strata reveal the richness of his universe and highlight the narrative power of his work.
